Finding the Perfect Bridal Gown

Now that you have your wedding date set and your venue picked out, it is time to find your dress! Keep in mind most designers need at least 6-8 months to create your gown. Also, make sure to leave about 4-6 weeks to complete the necessary alterations. So start your search early, if possible.

Keep track of different styles that catch your eye in magazines and find out where they are sold. Create a list of the bridal salons you would like to go to and check their websites for trunk shows, samples sales, and other events for brides. Book your appointments at least 3 weeks in advance, because these special events fill up fast.
At trunk shows they typically showcase a particular designers gowns and will offer a discount if you purchase that day. Sometimes the designer will attend the event and will personally work with brides and answer questions or help with customization.

Sample sales are a totally different experience. Generally, they are on a first come first serve basis, so get in line early. For this experience, you will not have a personal consultant helping style you. Bring a trusted friend or family member who will give an honest opinion. It is also helpful to have someone to assist in carrying dresses and to help you in and out of the gowns. Sample sale gowns are heavily discounted and can be up to 75% off for top designer brands. Remember, you will be purchasing a gown that was tried on by others and will probably need to be cleaned. Sample sale gowns are typically bridal sizes 8, 10, 12, or 14. Bridal sizes run a size or two smaller than ready-to-wear clothing. So if you are normally a size 8, you will be about a size 10 in bridal gowns. If you are smaller than the size of the gown you picked out, most of the time it can be altered down to your size. On the other hand, if you are larger than the size of the gown, they usually can not be let out to accommodate for more room. Keep all of these tips in mind and your experience should be a success.

Special events can be informative and can inspire brides with new and interesting ideas. The events usually take place in bridal salons, hotels, or conference centers. Here you will find a smorgasbord of venders who will offer promotions or free samples of their products or services. You will find everything from lingerie specialists to drink mixologists, which are there to help make your special day unique and fun.

Once you find the dress that is “The One”, it makes the rest of your planning easier. Now you can figure out what your bridesmaids will wear, the accessories needed to complete your look, and all other aspects of the day. Good luck and enjoy!
